This study analyzes the representations of human subjectivity in a number of European films, from «Pandora's Box» to «The American Friend.» The various analyses incorporate the issues prominent in current post-structuralist discourse, psychoanalysis, existentialism, and to some degree, contemporary art and science. The study challenges the assumptions of «suture» theory, while discussing extra-textual relationships between films and culture.
